About Good Enough Charlotte Mason

Welcome to my little corner of the world. My name is Ami McNay. Wife to Dave. Mama to the McNay4, D19, D17, S14 and D12. Half of my own education was spent at home and I began homeschooling my children using Charlotte Mason’s principles in 2013. Our oldest graduated from our homeschool, McShnazzy Academy in 2024. I love Jesus, reading, cooking, crocheting, hiking, going on adventures, organizing, crunching numbers, and talking. I also love to share my life and encourage other mamas who are in the trenches. 

We are persons, like our children. We also grow weary of doing it all and need others to come alongside, to encourage and share ideas that will feed our souls. I hope this place is less “how-to” and more ideas that inform the reasons why we have chosen to live this kind of life. Maybe your ideas are the same as mine, maybe they are different, and maybe together we can encourage and challenge one another as we work to redeem our little corners of the world.

I’m not curated. This is not a place for pretty words and pictures. I’m a mama, spending my life trying to pass my faith to my children, and make sure they are educated in the process. I do not do “pretty” Charlotte Mason, I do real Charlotte Mason. Honest Charlotte Mason. Broken Charlotte Mason. Charlotte Mason with 4 kids who are all created persons, all with amazing gifts, and all with various limitations. 

I have cut subjects and book lists because my family wants to eat three meals a day. My closets are not organized, and we are still working on the habit of brushing our teeth before school begins. I would describe our days as rough, but our life as beautiful. I think that is just as Jesus intended.
